How to Create a Video Marketing Strategy for Businesses

Creating a video marketing strategy is a lot simpler than it might seem. With the popularity of video sites such as YouTube and Viddler – it's also way more beneficial than you may even have imagined.

Just think – if you gain yourself a hot spot on one of these video sites – you could easily attract thousands or even hundreds of thousands of viewers to view your video. This will mean that all of these people will be exposed to your marketing message and will be offered the ability to access your website to view your products or services.

Whether you are a business operating on a local or global scale – building an effective video marketing strategy is something that you do not want to be missing out on.

Videos can even be free to make and they are free to distribute. So let's look at what you need to think about when you are approaching a video marketing strategy for your business:

Plan your video: This is key to producing a video that will communicate what you need it to. It will also take the stress off. Not everybody feels comfortable appearing in front of a camera – with some careful planning – you won't need to.

First off, you'll need to write a script so that you are clear about what you will be talking about. You will then need to build some slides using a product such as Powerpoint or even the OpenOffice version. Once your slides are ready, you'll need to use a piece of software that will record your screen - you could use Camtasia or even check out CamStudio if you prefer to use a free one.

Keep it simple: Even Amazon and Apple use promotional videos that are very simply devised – basically they give the facts, the features and the benefits to the viewers. They don't spend a lot of money creating amazing 3D videos or even have spectacular backdrops such as Niagara Falls etc. They use a simple background and sometimes won't even use an actor to talk – but they will quite often use a voice-over. You can also create a video marketing strategy just like the marketing teams of those big boy brands - just by using the tools that I have detailed here.

Distribute it widely: There are a variety of websites that will host your video for you for free. These include MetaCafe, YouTube, Viddler and Vimeo. There are even distribution companies who will share your video on tens or even hundreds of video sites to ensure that you get lots of traffic viewing your videos. HeySpread is one of these and it won't cost you much to use.

Optimise your video: To do this effectively, you will need to ensure that you are showcasing your brand. Create a nice looking title and then use subtitles throughout so that you are keeping your brand in the vision of the person watching your video. Once you upload your video you need to use the keywords that people are searching for to find videos like yours. Be sure to add a call to action at the end of the video too. Nothing happens without a call to action – it's essential.
